A inicios de un nuevo año resulta apropiado meditar un poco sobre la forma como hemos decidido vivir nuestras vidas, y en realidad, después de todos los espejismos y complicaciones ficticias que podemos inventar alrededor de este tema, solo tenemos dos opciones:
- O estamos en un círculo de mejora constante, en el que queremos ser mejores y vivir de mejor manera cada año que pasa,
- O estamos atascados en una complacencia con nuestro estado actual y no buscamos la mejora permanentemente, lo que significa que muy probablemente nos vamos a ir quedando atrás en muchos aspectos de nuestra existencia, puede ser en la salud, en las finanzas, en lo actualizado de nuestros conocimientos, etc.
La imagen de que a medida que envejecemos vamos perdiendo sintonía con el mundo “moderno” es demasiado común, tanto que se ha convertido en la regla, como si ese proceso de obsolescencia fuera de alguna manera obligatorio e inevitable. Pero no es obligatorio, es perfectamente evitable, y la llave para abrir la puerta de escape a esa trampa es identificar si el verdadero jefe de nuestras vidas somos nosotros mismos o es alguien más. Y me temo que esas son las únicas dos opciones.
Me imagino que la respuesta inmediata, casi automática, es que los jefes de nuestras vidas somos nosotros mismos, pero veamos esto en más detalle para confirmar si en realidad ese es el caso.
Cuando tenemos un empleo y nos comprometemos con nuestro jefe para hacer algo, sabemos que si no lo hacemos bien y a tiempo vamos a pasar un mal rato. Por lo tanto, le damos mucha seriedad a esa promesa y no hay pereza, familia o muchas veces ni enfermedad o imprevisto que nos detenga. Cuando nos comprometemos con nosotros mismos a hacer algo, ¿le damos la misma seriedad a la promesa o caemos víctimas de la cultura “esque” (es que no tuve tiempo, es que llamé pero no me contestaron, es que me fui pero estaba cerrado, es que, es que, es que…)?
Cuando el sacerdote (o el pastor/rabino/gurú, etc.) nos pide que hagamos algo en la iglesia, por lo general dejamos todo de lado para demostrar que nuestro compromiso con la causa celestial es muy fuerte, y nos aterroriza la vergüenza que nos causaría si le quedáramos mal a alguien que por lo general se considera de alguna forma “mejor” que nosotros, o al menos más avanzado en el camino espiritual. Cuando usted hace una resolución similar con usted mismo o con su familia, ¿le aterroriza de la misma forma la vergüenza que le causaría con usted mismo el no cumplir lo prometido?
Cuando nos matriculamos en un curso o si estamos estudiando en el colegio o la universidad, asistir a clases, hacer las tareas y aprobar los exámenes son actividades que revisten un alto grado de seriedad e importancia. En el internet podemos encontrar toneladas de información de forma 100% gratuita. Cuando decidimos aprender sobre algo de forma autodidacta, ¿le damos la misma seriedad a ese estudio que al formal de la escuela?
De sus respuestas a estas preguntas y otras similares es que en realidad va a saber si usted vive su vida en sus propios términos o si ha renunciado a ese derecho y ha entregado su soberanía a fuerzas externas como la procrastinación, la pereza o la presión social.
